Launceston student AVA CAMPBELL is one of just three talented young people from across Australia to be granted a Bell Shakespeare 2012 Regional Performance Scholarship.
Ava, a Year 12 student at Newstead College, has earned a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to spend a week at Bell Shakespeare's headquarters in Sydney in February.
Bell Shakespeare's Regional Performance Scholarship gives students living in regional Australia the chance to learn and perform Shakespeare with some of the country's best known Shakespeare actors.
Almost 150 students auditioned for the 2012 scholarship by performing a monologue from a Shakespeare play. As one of 12 short listed students (and the only short listed Tasmanian) Ava's monologue was viewed by a selection panel that included Bell Shakespeare's Associate Artistic Director Peter Evans.
Ava auditioned in July when a Regional Access Workshop was held at Newstead college ahead of Julius Caesar at the Princess Theatre. Presented in conjunction with Theatre North, it was one of three workshops held in Launceston this year.
Ava will spend a week at Bell Shakespeare's studios in Sydney, when she'll re-enact her monologue, from King John, for company founder John Bell. She'll also attend workshops, rehearsals and performances.
CONGRATULATIONS AVA from THEATRE NORTH!
