CONVERSATIONS WITH FRIENDS

Freddie Todman arrived in Tasmania almost 45 years ago from Brighton, on the south coast of England. Having sung in church and school choirs from the age of 10, Freddie was heavily involved in the music scene in England. He joined his first band at aged fifteen and has been singing in one form or an another ever since.

Freddie joined The Selectones in the mid seventies with June Bullock and enjoyed a wonderful time performing all around Launceston. With June, Freddie co-wrote The Casino City Basketball song in 1981 and were asked to write a song for the Asthma camps of Tasmania which had to include the words "Life Wasn’t Meant to be Wheezy”. Then came Freddie’s 17 year association with the members of Orchard Road .

Freddie’s first theatre show was at the Theatre Royal in Hobart in the production of Les Miserables. His daughter Georgina was as keen as he was to perform in the musical, and therein started a life long love of musicals for them both, including productions of The Music Man, Pirates of Penzance, Little Shop of Horrors, two more stagings of Les Miserables here in Launceston and too many more to mention.
