Theatre North, as managers of the Princess Theatre and Earl Arts Centre, take our responsibility to public health seriously.
We are closely monitoring the latest advice from Federal, state and local governments and have comprehensive Covid-safe plans, which will evolve as health advice changes.
To make sure you are safe and feel comfortable during your visit with us, we have in place a range of Covid-safety measures.
The Four Big Ways You Can Help
Safety Measures
Reduced Attendance
The Princess Theatre is currently restricted to 75% of fixed seated capacity. This equates to 708 patrons.
At the Earl Arts Centre, attendance is 75% of fixed seated capacity. This equates to 139 patrons.
Signage indicating capacity is posted throughout the venue.
Mask Wearing
Please bring a facemask with you, when you attend a show at the Princess Theatre. The State Government has mandated that facemasks must be worn once attendance reaches 374 or more patrons at the Princess.
We recognise that mask-wearing is a new thing in Tasmania and we appreciate your support and forbearance with this new requirement.
Masks are not required for patrons who are under 12 years old, who have a medical certificate stating that they are exempt, or who are performers.
Our Theatre North staff will be wearing masks at show time.
There is no requirement for facemasks at the Earl Arts Centre.
Check In
The State Government requires all attendees to the Princess Theatre and Earl Arts Centre to check in, using the Check In Tas app.
You can help us by:
It is a quick and painless exercise, and your assistance helps us move patrons through the foyer with a minimum of queueing.
Staggered Arrival Times & Alternate Entrances
The foyers of the Princess Theatre and Earl Arts Centre are relatively small compared to the venues themselves, with low carrying capacities. For popular shows, staggered arrival times or alternate entrance points may be used to prevent crowding at the entrance to the venue and in the foyers.
Information on your arrival time and entrance will be sent to you in a pre-show email 24-72 hours prior to your show.
As per our COVID-safety plan, arrival times for audiences must be staggered for this event. Please review the seat number on your ticket in advance, to help us ensure your entry is managed smoothly.

Should you be arriving in a group with seats across different entry times, please arrive together at the earlier time.
If you’re meeting friends, we ask that you arrange to meet some way from the theatre, to prevent congestion in the foyer or on the footpath outside.
Physical Distancing
Our current seating plan is in an approved COVID-safe seating map to 75% of capacity.
You may be seated next to other patrons.
We strongly encourage you to apply 1.5m physical distancing on entry and when exiting the theatres. And please help us to minimise congestion where possible.
