POLLOCK AT THE PRINCESS

27 Jul 2017 - 4 Oct 2017

Art Competition & Exhibition

You're invited to be a part of our exhibition project

POLLOCK AT THE PRINCESS

Theatre North at the Princess are presenting Stephen Sachs’s play Bakersfield Mist at the Princess Theatre on Tuesday 12 September, starring Australian television legends John Wood and Julie Nihill, together again since headlining the cast of police drama Blue Heelers.

The play is based on a true story in which Maude, an unemployed bartender, buys a painting in an op shop and is convinced that the work is by renowned artist Jackson Pollock, worth millions.

World-class art expert Lionel Percy flies from New York and arrives at her Bakersfield trailer park home to authenticate the painting... The play is about what happens next.

Theatre North at the Princess & Hotel Grand Chancellor Launceston, 2017 Subscription Season Theatre Show Sponsor, invite Launceston artists to create a Jackson Pollock-inspired artwork, for the chance to win some very attractive prizes.

The competition Pollock at the Princess not only coincides with Bakersfield Mist, but pays homage to Pollock, celebrating the 65th birthday of Blue Poles (Number 11, 1952), one of the American artist’s most famous works and the first acquisition in Australia of a major work by the artist.

The National Gallery of Australia acquired the work in 1973 for 1.3 million dollars amid huge controversy. This year it has returned home from a rare loan to the Royal Academy in London.

LAUNCH of Pollock at the Princess

The competition will be launched with an Open Cocktail Party at the Hotel Grand Chancellor Lobby Bar on Thursday 27 July, 5.30pm.
