A film about the endangered Maugean Skate
Save the Skate - a powerful new documentary from Environment Tasmania by film producers Land and Sea for All, presented in partnership with Patagonia.
Set against the beauty of Macquarie Harbour, the Save the Skate offers an intimate look at what it means to grow up in a time undergoing profound ecological change. At its centre is the Maugean skate, a species found nowhere else on earth, now teetering on the edge of extinction.
Through conversations with scientists, artists, and community members, the film traces the unfolding crisis in one of Tasmania’s most iconic waterways. It’s a story of loss, responsibility, and the quiet resilience of those who are bearing witness to change - and asking what kind of future we want to pass on to the next generation.
