Child Safety Commitment Statement

Theatre North is committed to providing a safe, respectful and welcoming environment for all children and young people who attend, perform in, or otherwise engage with events at our venues. 

We support the intent and requirements of the Child and Youth Safe Organisations Act 2023 (Tasmania) and the National Principles for Child Safe Organisations. We recognise that children and young people have the right to feel and be safe, to be heard and to participate in decisions that affect them.

While Theatre North does not directly work with children as performers, we host events presented by promoters, producers and community organisations who may engage children and young people. We expect all hirers and contractors using our venue to comply with relevant child safety legislation, standards and best practice, including:

• Having appropriate child safe policies and procedures
• Ensuring all workers who interact with children are suitable and appropriately supervised
• Responding promptly and appropriately to any concerns about child safety or wellbeing

Our staff are trained to recognise and respond to concerns about child safety, and we will act in accordance with Tasmanian law and our internal procedures if we become aware of any risk of harm to a child or young person.

We acknowledge the rights of Aboriginal children and young people to cultural safety, and we strive to ensure our venue is a place where their identity, culture and community connections are respected and supported.
