The most divine music played in beautiful heritage buildings…

The Tasmanian Chamber Music Festival, now in its fourth year goes International….

Fresh from taking First Prize in both the Bordeaux and Banff international String Quartet competitions in 2019, the young British Marmen Quartet will give its only Australian performances in the Festival.

The Quartet will be joined by wonderful Australian pianist Piers Lane for Schumann’s virtuosic Piano Quintet in the opening concert on Friday night at the Falls Pavilion, Evandale.

Saturday morning’s concert, in the most perfect example of Greek Revival Georgian architecture, the Uniting Church in Evandale, will feature harpist and ABC Classic presenter, Genevieve Lang in recital.

Part of the Festival’s charm is the opportunity to discover more of northern Tasmania. On Saturday afternoon we visit Westbury where European settlement dates from 1820. The Great Western Tiers, with Dry’s Bluff and Quamby Bluff standing like sentinels against the sky, form a dramatic background for the town.

On the Village Green where afternoon tea will be served are two beautiful churches, Holy Trinity Catholic Church where in demand percussionist, Claire Edwards will perform and St. Andrew’s Anglican Church where the Marmen Quartet will play.

Saturday night’s atmospheric concert will be at Christ Church, Longford with some extraordinary a capella singing from The Idea of North.

It is back to Westbury on Sunday for a dazzling piano recital by Piers Lane including works by Rachmaninov and Chopin. This will be followed by a sit- down lunch with Festival artists at the beautiful house and gardens of Culzean.
