Australian Musical Theatre Festival presents

GLITTER

An Onstage Soiree

“Glitter” An Onstage Soiree is not only our official opening but a chance to see the beautiful Princess Theatre in a new light.

The 2021 Festival kicks off in the home of theatre in Launceston, the elegant, Princess Theatre – but not as you know it. A limited number of guests will be treated to this exclusive event, enjoying a glass of wine and a series of songs from the unique vantage point, on the stage of this local treasure.

There will be connection, laughter and, of course, a bit of glitter to kick off the festivities with special musical offerings from our Festival special guests, Simon Gleeson, Natalie O’Donnell, Brittany Shipway, Natalie Gamsu, John Xintavelonis and the students of the Hobart Conservatorium of Music, as we welcome back the Festival and welcome Musical Theatre into the theatres, classrooms, streets, parks and hearts of Launceston once more.

Additionally, on this evening Composer, Derek Rowe will receive his brief in creation of “Launceston – the Musical”. Acclaimed Musical Theatre Composer, Stephen Schwartz once said, “All a composer needs, is a good idea and a deadline”. Well, the Festival has a duration of five days and the idea, well it remains to be seen…This unique creation will be written based on themes and ideas contributed by YOU at this function and rehearsed over the five-day period of the festival, culminating in a showing on Sunday the 23rd when Launceston will be immortalised in song, words and dance!
