It’s Christmas morning on Bruny Island, and Cara is desperate for it to be a perfect day.
Cara’s about to have a baby and she wants this baby to have a family.
After a year and a half in Sydney, her sister Isla is returning home sober and she wants her to stay that way.
Cara's other sister Skye is recovering from a car accident, and for the first time in her life not knowing what her future holds.
Their mother Jan has decided to let the house out to tourists on Airbnb, so it's going to be the last Christmas they have on this place they've called home for decades.
They’ll have lunch and head back on the evening ferry to the big island.
Only, they won’t be on that ferry.
Isla isn’t coming home alone. And Christmas is about to get complicated.
ROAD WORKS is the premiere presentation of the heartwarming new Australian play On This Island, Now by Melanie Tait; a crackingly funny and honest tale of one family just trying to make it through Christmas day, and life; together.
ON THIS ISLAND, NOW is produced by arrangement with LMCM on behalf of Melanie Tait. Commissioned by Blue Cow Theatre.
