FOLLIES

Presented by The Australian Musical Theatre Festival and Art Screen Events.

Stephen Sondheim’s FOLLIES Q&A Event Screening with special guest star, Philip Quast.

Stephen Sondheim’s legendary musical, captured live from the National Theatre in London will be showing on the big screen at the Earl.

Joining us for a LIVE Q&A following the film, will be the Broadway and West End star Philip Quast.

Philip, who and has won three Olivier Awards plays Ben Stone in this version of the National Theatre’s sell-out revival of the Stephen Sondheim-James Goldman musical, Follies

New York, 1971. There’s a party on the stage of Weismann Theatre. Tomorrow the iconic building will be demolished. Thirty years after their final performance, the Follies girls gather to have a few drinks, sing a few songs and lie about themselves.

Featuring a cast of 37 and an orchestra of 21, Stephen Sondheim’s legendary musical was directed by Dominic Cooke and filmed live on stage at the National Theatre in 2017.

Considered by many to be the greatest of all musical theatre composers, Stephen a Sondheim has won Academy, Tony, Grammy and Olivier awards, with his other work including Into the Woods, Sweeney Todd and Sunday in the Park with George. Sondheim passed away in November 2021.

Philip has won acclaim worldwide across a range of performances but is perhaps best known as Inspector Javert in the stage musical Les Misérables filmed for the tenth anniversary Dream Cast in Concert.

The Q&A will be hosted by Tyan Parke, Artistic Director of the Australian Musical Theatre Festival who actually directed Philip in 'Follies' in Melbourne, prior to his West End run and shares a passion for the work of Stephen Sondheim.
