ACTING in SELF TAPES (Advanced)

With Lisa Gormley

10:00AM – 1:00PM

LAUNCESTON COLLEGE

With the pandemic has come a new way of auditioning, whether it be for television, musicals or even training institutions. Self- tapes have arrived and are now a permanent fixture in our industry that allow further engagement, an extended ability to reach a greater number of performers but with it come many challenges. How to deal with technology? How to do a ‘slate’ introducing yourself? Where should your eyeline be? What angles work? What should the background consist of?  For Musical Theatre, should you perform for stage or camera? How to balance sound? What to wear? How to adapt a performance for camera?

Lisa Gormley is an acclaimed actor and director who trained at NIDA and has a wealth of experience in casting. Lisa will lead the session joined in the final hour by Tyran Parke who has recently cast several musicals via self-tapes/zoom sessions. Together, they have a wealth of experience from behind the camera about what works and what doesn’t when in pursuit of a role. Whether you are interested in auditioning for Drama School, a television series or a commercial musical, this workshop will take you through the technical skills and creative approaches required to present you most successfully!

ACTING THROUGH SONG (Advanced)

ACTING THROUGH SONG (Advanced)

Philip Quast has earned his reputation as one with unparalleled dedication to serving deeply connected performances through song. His ease in this realm is not only world renowned but presents as natural. What is obvious in working with him is that what looks natural is the result of many hours of process. In this Acting Through Song class Philip aims to share the techniques that have served him so well over his career in a setting that is engaging, supportive and challenging. Philip will begin with group-based activities before working with a select group of singers to uncover the symbiotic relationship of words and music in specific songs. It is encouraged that every attendant should bring a song to apply the findings of the class to in an immediate and enlightening manner and fuel a question-and-answer session where you will be able to interrogate the techniques to a chosen song.

Philip is joined by frequent collaborator, the acclaimed Musical Director, Anne-Maree McDonald who will also impart her experience in shaping a song for performance.

This is designed for those at an advanced level.

*For those wishing to be considered to perform at the class, please prepare a musical theatre song and submit via the AMTF Audition page from 1st Feb – 1st March. AMTF is committed to diverse, inclusive casting and encourages applications from Aboriginal and Torres Strait

Islander people, people with disabilities, all ages, genders and people from culturally diverse backgrounds.
